The Team


The team at Bella Media comprises specialists in marketing, public relations, copywriting, graphic design, human resources and event management. The Managing Director is Michelle Kearney, a well-known figure in the industry with a wealth of knowledge and experience in marketing, especially in the cosmetic surgery field.


Caroline Selwyn Caroline Selwyn | Journalist

Caroline recently completed a Bachelor of Arts through Southern Cross University following a Diploma in Journalism at Macleay College in Sydney.
She has worked as a freelance writer for Australian Dance Teacher Magazine and contributed articles to various publications including the Sun Herald and The North Shore Times. Caroline has also worked in an entertainment company as a researcher, writer and event host and performed various PR duties for the Humour Foundation.
With a strong interest in health and beauty, Caroline is excited to embrace the world of magazines and publishing.

Michelle KearneyMichelle Kearney | Managing Director

Michelle Kearney is the Editor-in-Chief of Australian Cosmetic Surgery Magazine and Bella Beauty Magazine, and is the Managing Director of Bella Media. She is a pharmacist (University of Sydney) with over 15 years of retail and hospital experience. and also an exercise physiologist (University of NSW). Michelle wrote freelance articles for various publications including Australian Fitness Network Journal, Luxury Travel Magazine and M Magazine, before launching Australian Cosmetic Surgery Magazine in 1998. She writes brochures and website copy for many plastic and cosmetic surgeons and is skilled in demystifying scientific jargon for the lay person. She gave evidence at the Australian Government Inquiry into Cosmetic Surgery in 1999 and regularly presents at local and international conferences on public relations and marketing.

Michelle’s expertise in the cosmetic surgery arena is extensive and she has a comprehensive knowledge of the intricacies of the industry. She has developed strong relationships with all the key players in this field and is acknowledged as an expert in medical PR and marketing. Michelle will put in place a solid marketing plan to maximise your clinic’s profile and positioning in the marketplace.

Debbie PilarinosDebbie Pilarinos | Art Director

A graphic designer for over 10 years, Debbie has worked extensively for organisations such as Downtown Duty Free, Trimex and Rothschild. She produces specialist brochures, annual reports, magazines, newsletters, logos and corporate identities. Her work always achieves the highest standard of fresh, effective originality and clarity of message. She is also art director on Australian Cosmetic Surgery Magazine.

Blanche WilkieBlanche Wilkie | Media & Communications Director

Blanche manages successful marketing and PR campaigns for a large range of clients and has specialist knowledge in the healthcare arena. As a freelance journalist, she has written for Australian Cosmetic Surgery Magazine, The Bulletin, Woman’s Day, Nature and Health Magazine, and a variety of trade publications. Blanche has also worked in radio (news and documentaries) and has a BA (Communications) from the University of Technology, Sydney.

Laura HamptonLaura Hampton | Event Manager

Laura co-ordinates and manages conferences and seminars in the medical arena. She has a wealth of conference experience and has organised events across medical, educational, financial and government sectors. For example, she was an integral part of the team that produced the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the 2000 Olympic Games, and has also organised a range of conferences for the National Heart Foundation and professional Beauty Expos in the UK.

Bill DunkBill Dunk | General Manager

Bill Dunk is the General Manager of Bella Media in Australia. Bill has over twenty years of experience in design and IT businesses, and has worked on a diverse range of projects in that time include business branding, ISO 9000 accreditation, web site design and implementation, and Conference and Exhibition design and management.

Debby GracaDebby Graca | Director of Operations (currently on maternity leave)

Debby has nine years experience in the cosmetic surgery arena. She has developed key relationships in this area and developed first-hand knowledge of this field. Her expertise lies in advertising, promotions, public relations and communications. She has also studied marketing and strategic business planning.

Sarah ShepherdCathryn McCann | Business Development Manager

Cathryn has over 6 years experience in the media industry with a background in Cinema, television and Publishing. She brings a diverse range of skills to the Bella team and has studied both Marketing and Advertising. Shallis MasonShallis Mason | Beauty Editor

Shallis is the Beauty Editor for Bella Beauty Magazine. With a broad experience in the beauty industry and publishing as well as 5 years experience as a legal secretary, Shallis has extensive organisational skills and has a keen eye for upcming trends. Shallis is a great addition to the fast paced publishing environment of Bella Media and is extremely friendly and customer focused.

Louisa McKayLouisa McKay | Business Development Manager

Market strength and viability depends on maintaining vigorous business development objectives. As Business Development Manager for all facets of Bella Media, Louisa works with clients in the development of detailed strategies to grow their existing business and to achieve further market reach. With a creative background in Graphic Design and Mulitmedia, together with previous experience in designing real working solutions for many and varied companies, Louisa brings a wide range of skills to Bella Media. Jennifer BellJennifer Bell | Art Director

Jennifer was the Art Director for Salon Business Magazine in the UK, before returning to Sydney in 2008. She has studied both Fine Art (University of Newcastle) and Design (UTS) before becoming an Art Director and has over 15 years of experience in all things arty – from owning a gallery to a front row seat in the fashion and beauty industry and art directing for glossy magazines around the world.

Aimee SurtenichAimee Surtenich | Editorial Director

Aimee Surtenich is our Editorial Director. She has extensive experience in magazine publishing, particularly in the area of cosmetic surgery and beauty. Before joining the team in 2005, Aimee was an editor for a leading global legal publisher. She has a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Media and has also worked for an award-winning business magazine in London.

Jessica RuleJessica Rule | Journalist

Jessica has 10 years experience in the media, including a BA in journalism and marketing from Curtin University. Working for a wide range of titles from the Sydney Morning Herald to magazines such as House & Garden and Instyle, she's filled positions as a journalist, deputy editor and freelancer. As a writer she's covered a wide range of areas in addition to beauty, from specialising in architecture and design, web and corporate copy writing for communications companies. She's happy to be indulging her passion for all things beauty and cosmetic at Bella.

Gemma Garkut Gemma Garkut | Journalist

Gemma studied journalism at the University of East Anglia in the UK and has a Bachelor of Writing from the University of Canberra. She has freelanced for a diverse range of publications in lifestyle and the arts and recently worked as a travel writer in London. She loves the world of fashion and beauty and is very excited to be a part of the team of Bella Media.

Alex HodkoAlex Hodko| Business Development Manager

Holding both a Bachelor of Business and a Bachelor of Arts as well as extensive experience in retail and sales, Alex's main focus is on maximising your businesses potential. Alex has wide range of experience including working in the hospitality industry, running his own small business and most recently as a BDM and sales manger for Multi National Finance Companies. Alex brings with him great interpersonal skills, enthusiasm and an eye for detail while constantly maintaining a level of excellence.
